New location gives business a snowball's chance
Here’s an update on the Snowball Station, which had to move its location from the Lake St. Charles Shopping Center near the intersection of U.S. 301 and Lake St. Charles Boulevard.
Sarah and Charles Smith have moved slightly south and have reopened their shop in front of the Riverview Flea Market at 7415 U.S. 301 South. The stand’s hours will closely mirror those of the flea market: It will be open Wednesdays through Fridays from 1-6 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.
The new site may not have the ambiance of the Lake St. Charles site — there was a nice, wide-open feel to the old place — but the new spot still has a snowball’s chance of doing well. The Smiths were forced to move their business when the owners of the Lake St. Charles Shopping Center contracted with a car wash, which is scheduled to be built at the old Snowball Station location sometime later this year.
The new location sits on a sidewalk outside the northeast end of the flea market, and the rental spot is “from pole to pole,” leaving room for a table and chairs for customers.
“We’re getting some good traffic,” Sarah Smith said.
